Lion City vs Hougang United Prediction: The Sailors can’t afford to deny their fans a lifetime experience

On Saturday, Lion City will square off against Hougang United at the Jalan Besar Stadium. Since changing their name to Lion City in 2020, the Sailors reached their first-ever Singapore final, while Hougang United are the defending champions.

The Sailors have not had a smooth sail in this competition, but after their solid performance against Tampines in a two-legged battle, Lion City will play their first Singapore Cup Final tomorrow. The Sailors have drawn twice and won three games since the competition began. 

After a disappointing season, which saw them lose the SPL title to Albirex Niigata for the second consecutive season, the Sailors will be out to console their fans by winning this tournament.

The Tigers have shown why they’re the reigning champions, even though they’ve had some average teams to compete with. Hougang United march here following their (3-0) aggregate victory over Brunei DPMM in the semifinals. 

The Tigers have not been clinical in this competition and are lucky to have finished second in the group.

Over their previous twenty meetings, Lion City have won eleven while Hougang United have managed four wins and five games ending in a tie. Lion City have faced more robust opponents in this competition and still remain unbeaten despite jumping from AFC Champions League to the Singapore Cup. On the opposing end, Hougang have not been bad either, just that they have faced easier teams in this tournament. Regarding quality, Lion City are heads and shoulders above the visitors, but since it’s a final game, we expect Hougang to put up a solid performance here. We expect Lions City to advance to the next round, considering their recent display against a tough Tampines Rovers team: bet on halftime over 1.5 goals for 1.81.

The home side will score in both halves for 1.65.

We expect Lion City to win before the breaks for 1.80.
