Côte d'Ivoire wasn't impressive at last year's Africa Cup of Nations. The Ivorians finished top of the group with seven points from three games but were eliminated in the round of 16 when they lost on penalties to Egypt (0:0, 4:5). Côte d'Ivoire then played two friendlies against top European teams, losing to France (1:2) and England (0:3).

The Zambian team didn't participate in the last Africa Cup of Nations, so they only played friendlies in the spring after failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. By the way, Zambia finished third in their quartet in the qualifiers. The Zambians started with a 1:3 defeat at the hands of Iraq before beating Congo 3:1 to finish with a 1:2 loss to Benin.
