Italy vs Lithuania: Italians to play in relaxed mode

After the triumph at Euro 2020, Italy seem to have taken a breather. And how can you say otherwise when the Italians played two matches in the World Cup 2022 selection in September and drew in both. What’s more, their opponents were far from the top flight - Bulgaria (1-1) and Switzerland (0-0). At least the Swiss were beaten 3-0 by the Italians at the European Championship. Anyway, Italy top the table in Group C with 11 points, seven ahead of runner-up Switzerland.

Lithuania’s World Cup qualifiers in Qatar are expected to fail. The team is simply sponsoring their opponents with points. They have four defeats in four matches with a total score of 1:8. First, the Lithuanians lost to Switzerland (0-1), then to Italy (0-2), after Northern Ireland (1-4), and in the last match to Bulgaria (0-1). As for their place in the Group C standings, they are last in Group C, of course, with zero points.

Italy are playing in a thrifty mode, at 25% of their potential. On the other hand, there is no urgent need to win either. We should not wait for the defeat and total domination of the Italians.
