Roma vs Milan Prediction: Waiting for the goal exchange

On 29 April 2023, the 32nd round of the Italian football championship will be played at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Check the team conditions and choose several betting options.

Roma continues to progress under Jose Mourinho. It's not always a great aesthetic pleasure to watch, but the Portuguese have never been known for that, and together with him, the Romans have a serious tournament challenge. A year ago, they won the Conference League, and now they have reached the semi-finals of the Europa League. At the same pace, they will be well-positioned for the Champions League shortly. In Serie A, they are also doing quite well. Despite losing 1:3 to Atalanta last time round, Roma finished fifth, only a point behind the top four in the table.

Milan will be crowned champions very soon. They could not defend their title but were unlikely to be too upset by the prospect of challenging Napoli for the title. In the short-term tie, however, which came down to the Champions League quarter-finals, the Red and Black were stronger on aggregate in two games, 2:1, and will therefore face Inter in the semi-finals very soon. Milan also maintains their chances of qualifying for the continental club competition in Serie A where, after 31 rounds, they are in fourth place. Last week they secured a vital 2:0 win against Lecce.

Roma and AC Milan are two teams used to playing a very pragmatic and result-oriented game. Therefore their matches don't always turn out to be great goalscoring matches - let alone high-profile encounters. This does not only apply to their head-to-head meetings, as the opponents have scored 20 goals (4.00 on average per game) in their last five head-to-head encounters, which is very high even by the standards of Italian football. At the same time, there was an exchange of goals and total over every time. As a result, we should bet on a total over 2.5 goals, and separately we should bet on Both teams to Score - Yes.

We can unlikely identify a clear favorite in the upcoming encounter. The tournament position says more than anything else about the opponents' relative level, as AC Milan takes the fourth place and Roma is placed lower, with both teams having 56 points each. A win in a head-to-head encounter could allow either Roma or Milan to pull away from the Champions League standings next season. Still, a draw might be a more comfortable outcome that would keep things intriguing at the end of the table. With that in mind, we suggest betting on a draw.
