Mexico vs Cameroon Prediction: Both sides will prove a point

Cameroon will be the opponent for Mexico's match at the Snapdragon Stadium in California on Sunday morning. This match will be the third and last of Mexico's string of three consecutive friendly matches. The men coached by Diego Cocca will be competing in the CONCACAF Nations League semi-finals the following week, and they will be seeking to finish their preparations on a successful note.

Mexico escaped further heartache after being eliminated from the 2022 World Cup in the group round by advancing to the knockout stage of the CONCACAF Nations League in March. With four points from three games, the Tricolor finished third in Group C, one spot and one goal behind Poland for the last qualifying spot. Cocca's draw and win record in their last two matches in the Nations League has propelled them to the semi-finals of the continental tournament, where they will meet the United States next weekend. On Thursday morning, Raul Jimenez and Roberto de la Rosa scored goals to lead Mexico to a 2-0 victory against Guatemala in the second of three consecutive friendly matches. As they prepare to begin their Gold Cup campaign later this month, Mexico will attempt to continue their unbeaten streak of six matches (four wins and two draws) since their World Cup loss to Argentina. 

While Cameroon will be returning to the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier later in September, they will be trying to build momentum heading into Sunday's game. Rigobert Song's men started off well with a 1-0 win over Burundi in their opening qualifying match in June, but since then, things have gone downhill in their pursuit of a 21st participation at the AFCON. A 1-1 draw with Namibia on March 24 was followed by a 2-1 loss to the Brave Warriors four days later, leaving Cameroon with just one point from their last two Group C fixtures. Since overcoming Congo 1-0 in their Africa Nations Championship match at the Stade Miloud Hadefi, the Indomitable Lions have gone three games without a win, losing twice and drawing once. Cameroon hasn't won any of their past five friendlies, losing twice and drawing three times since June 2021, as they ramp up preparations for their match against Burundi on September 4.

Mexico's confidence will be through the roof going into Sunday's Nations League match against the United States after their dominating performance against Guatemala on Thursday. We anticipate a tough game from Cameroon, but the hosts should prevail due to the vast quality gap.
