Singapore - will hope to extend unbeaten streak

After playing out a 2-2 tie with Papua New Guinea on Friday, Singapore increased their unbeaten streak in friendly matches to five. The Lions were ahead twice thanks to goals scored by Adam Swandi and Hariss Harun, but they were tied twice during a frenzied closing five minutes of the first half, with Raymond Gunemba scoring the game's final goal in the second minute of first-half stoppage time. Both countries had chances to win the match near the end of the second half, but in the end the points were split, and Singapore's Takayuki Nishigaya was unable to guide his team to victory in their maiden match at the National Stadium. Singapore, who have only lost one of their last nine international matches over the last 10 months, are expected to play in front of a sellout capacity of 55,000 on Sunday against Solomon Islands, and they will hope to end the current international break on a high note with a victory in advance of the 2026 AFC World Cup qualifiers, which will begin in October.

Solomon Islands - confident of getting back to winning ways

Solomon Islands suffered their first loss of 2023 on Wednesday when they were defeated 4-1 away against Malaysia. This was the team's first loss of the year after opening their account in 2023 with back-to-back 2-0 friendly wins over Vanuatu and Fiji. 19-year-old Raphael Lea'i opened the scoring after 11 minutes of play. It was his sixth goal for Fiji in eight appearances for the national team. Malaysia responded with a goal from Harimau Malaya five minutes before halftime. Fiji's three goals in the second half enabled them to pull away as a convincing winner. Solomon Islands, whose head coach is a Spaniard named Felipe Vega-Arango, will finish their tour of Asia with a trip to Singapore, a place they have never been before but where they suffered a defeat in a friendly match against Singapore in June 2019 by a scoreline of 4-3. Solomon Islands have scored in each of their last 13 international away games, tallying a total of 43 goals in the process.

Singapore possible starting lineup:

Sunny, Hamzah, Najeeb, Harun, Nor, Kumar, Shahiran, Anuar, Swandi, Kweh, Ramli

Solomon Islands possible starting lineup:

Mango, Alick, Kalu, Kofana, Stanton, Komasi, Gagame, Tahioa, Lea'i, Feni, Nawo

Expert Betting Tips

This should be a close matchup as these two nations are comparable to one another, and given that there is not much separating the two teams, a tie in terms of score may be the most likely outcome. Also, in a contest that is not anticipated to be dull, containing a number of offensive performances and energy, it is anticipated that both teams will find the back of the net in this particular matchup.
