Werder Bremen vs SC Freiburg Prediction: Will Werder Bremen secure second win in a row?

One of the early kick-offs in the Bundesliga on Saturday of Week 6 of the Bundesliga will involve Werder Bremen facing an excellent SC Freiburg team in a vital encounter at the Weserstadion. Werder Bremen is presently 10th in the Bundesliga rankings and has not played well recently. In their previous encounter, the hosts managed a 3-4 win over Hoffenheim. 

SC Freiburg is now 7th in the league table and has performed admirably this season. The visitors suffered a strange 0-3 defeat to St Paulih last week and will need to bounce back in this game.

Both teams will be looking to get back on track. Werder Bremen has won two of their previous five games, while Freiburg has won three of their last five games.

The dip in form for the home team couped with sloppy defending makes Freiburg the slight favorites. However, goals are expected from both teams.

Bremen are currently in tenth place, with two wins, two draws and one defeat from five league games. The first two games of the Bundesliga season were draws, but then they narrowly beat Mainz on the road. Bremen were unlucky because that close win was followed by a bad 5-0 defeat at home to Bayern Munich.

They were in danger of another defeat at Hoffenheim last Saturday. They gave up three goals in the first 12 minutes, leaving plenty to do. Stanley Nsoki was given a straight red card in the 18th minute, changing the tone of the game. I quickly singled to tie the game, but Jens Stage scored twice to tie the game and send both teams into the break. After the break, Stage scored his third goal and Bremen’s fourth goal, making an impressive comeback to make it a five-game league run in which his side remained unbeaten on the road.

The Ole Werner-led side will now head back to the Weserstadion, where they drew 0-0 with Borussia Dortmund and beat Bayern 5-0. Looking for their first home win of the season, Bremen take solace in the fact that they beat Freiburg 3-1 in their last meeting in January.

Freiburg enters the weekend in seventh place after three wins and two defeats in its first five league games. Freiburg opened the Bundesliga season with a victory over Stuttgart, but lost their second game of the season 2-0 to Bayern. Finding that obstacle, Julian Schuster’s side beat Bochum and Heidenham in back-to-back matches. A recent home match between Freiburg and newly promoted Saint Pauli ended in a brutal 3-0 loss for Freiburg.

Freiburg, who lost at home for the first time this season, will play their last game away from home before the international break. Bremen have lost three of their last four matches against Bresgau Brasilians. Their road record against Saturday’s opponents in the Bundesliga is just 1-1. April 2023 was their only away win that season, a razor-thin 2-1 victory.

Freiburg seem the likely winner but the away form of Freiburg makes it questionable to expect an outright win. We expect the spoils to be shared in this game with the score likely to be 1-1 or 2-2.

The ability of both teams to score coupled with the poor away performance of Freiburg makes this prediction likely.
