FSV Mainz 05 vs FC Augsburg Prediction: Expect both teams to score and over 2.5 goals to be scored

In round 22 of the German Bundesliga, Augsburg takes on the relegation-threatened Mainz 05 at Mewa Arena on Saturday. Mainz 05 lost 3-1 to Stuttgart at MHP Arena on Sunday, continuing their poor run of form at the bottom of the Bundesliga standings.

The Rhineland-Palatinate team's current league winless streak is at 11 games. Since their 4th November 2-0 triumph over RB Leipzig, they have lost five and drawn six of their last six games. Augsburg is presently tied for 11th position in the Bundesliga standings with Wolfsburg in 12th place after 21 games played and 23 points earned.

Even said, it is important to note that Augsburg is still one point worse off with 23 points after 21 league games than they were at the same time in the previous season, despite their better league standing.

After a valiant effort against the Bulls resulted in a 2-2 tie, Fuggerstadter managed to collect a point and move up to fifth position in the league rankings, where they will now play Mainz.

With a strong record against this opponent—they have defeated them more times than any other club in the top flight (12 times) and scored in each of their past 13 Bundesliga games—the longest scoring run against any team—Jess Thorup's team will be buzzing going into this match.

Furthermore, after winning 2-1 at Borussia Monchengladbach in January and a thrilling 1-1 draw with Bochum at the beginning of this month, Augsburg is still unbeaten on the road this year.

Mainz has performed dreadfully this season and, barring a significant improvement in the second half of the league campaign, is headed for relegation. But it's hard to argue much for them in this one given that they have only won once in 21 games thus far.
