Borussia Dortmund vs TSG Hoffenheim Prediction: Can Dortmund win this important game?

Following their historic Champions League match against Barcelona in the middle of the week, Borussia Dortmund will now return to their domestic obligations. This coming Saturday afternoon at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, they will be playing host to Hoffenheim in match day 14. In the derby between two Borussian teams that took place on Saturday, Dortmund and Monchengladbach shared the spoils. They had the lead thanks to Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who was playing well, but they were unable to maintain it even though they missed several opportunities at Borussia Park.

The current season has been a challenging one for Hoffenheim. Within the first thirteen rounds of the competition, they have only managed to secure three victories. As far as the Bundesliga rankings are concerned, it is only good enough for the fourteenth spot. In the previous round, the visitors played Freiburg to a 1-1 draw, and they come into this match with that result in mind.

Borussia Dortmund was eliminated from the Champions League on Wednesday after suffering a loss to Barcelona by a score of 3-2. As a consequence of this loss, they are currently ranked ninth in the league phase table with 12 points. Concerns were expressed regarding Dortmund's inadequate defensive capabilities, notably their vulnerability to counterattacks, as a result of the performance. BVB are currently going through a difficult period, as they have not been victorious in any of their most recent three matches. On the other hand, two of those matches were played against top-tier opponents at the level of Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Their recent performance in the Bundesliga has been inconsistent, with two victories, two draws, and two defeats being recorded in their last six matches.

Despite this, they had successfully won their previous eight matches at home, and the loss to Barcelona is the first time they have suffered a loss at the stadium so far this season.

Hoffenheim will most certainly take some inspiration from their recent draw with Freiburg, although they are just three points ahead of Heidenheim, who are now in the relegation playoff slot. Heidenheim is currently in 16th place. Following a string of three consecutive losses in their previous matches, the outcome was a forward-looking move for the team. 

In the Bundesliga, Hoffenheim has scored 18 goals while allowing 25 goals to be scored against them. This places them in the 12th position in offensive rankings and ties them for the fourth-worst defensive record in the region. However, their performance on the road has been a big cause for concern. In their most recent ten matches away from home, the club has not been able to score a victory, and they have lost six of those matches and drawn four of them.

At this point in the season, Dortmund's performances at home have incomparably been superior to those they have displayed away from home. All six of their victories in the league have been achieved within their territory. Seven league matches have been played at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, and Nuri Sahin's team has a record of six victories and one draw in those matches.

In their most recent four matches in all competitions, Hoffenheim dropped three of them and drew one of them. Hoffenheim have not been victorious in any of their ten consecutive road matches across all competitions. The last six times they have played away from home, they have not been able to find the back of the net.

Hence, a win is expected of the home side.
