Borussia Dortmund vs SC Freiburg Prediction: Home advantage may count for Dortmund

This Saturday afternoon, Borussia Dortmund will attempt to maintain their perfect record at home when they play Freiburg at the famous Signal Iduna Park at 17:30 (GMT+3). The game is shaping up to be one of the most exciting encounters of Matchday No. 11

During this Bundesliga season, Dortmund has won all five of their home games while scoring 14 goals while playing at home. However, they have been terrible away from home and have lost three of the previous five league games. They have also been terrible overall. The previous round's loss against Mainz by a score of 1-3, which was significantly impacted by an early red card for Emre Can, is included in the negative run.

There have been three league games that Freiburg has lost in a row. They had not scored a single goal in any of their previous two rounds of competition, which were against Mainz and Union Berlin. For most of this season, Freiburg has played a football that is compact and defensive. This season, they have played five games away from home, and they have a goal differential of 5–5.

Borussia Dortmund is now a frightening ten points behind the league leaders, Bayern Munich. Following a string of disappointing performances, the most recent of which was a lacklustre showing against Mainz, the Dortmund boss has come under growing criticism. Dortmund was in charge of six important chances during that game, but they were only able to generate one of their own.

Dortmund has scored 18 goals and given up 18 goals this season, putting them in sixth position for the Bundesliga's best offence but tied for seventh place for the worst defensive. Sahin's club has only won three of their last seven league games and has lost four of their last six games, which paints a dismal picture of their recent performance.

Their home form, however, remains a source of hope in spite of everything. Dortmund has won all seven of their games at Signal Iduna Park in the 2024–25 campaign. In addition, 11 of their previous 12 home games have ended in victory.

Given that Vincenzo Grifo wasted a penalty kick in the twenty-first minute that would have given his team the lead, Freiburg, the visitors, will probably lament their lost chance to defeat Union Berlin. With just 11 goals allowed this season, Freiburg's defence has been outstanding. They are now the fourth-strongest defence in the Bundesliga, behind only Union Berlin, RB Leipzig, and Bayern München.

Having won two of their previous three games, Schuster's team enters this match riding a three-game winning streak that includes two draws and one triumph. Their away performance, though, has been patchy. Freiburg has only achieved two wins, one tie, and two losses in their last five away games. They have also lost their last two away games.

Borussia Dortmund has won all five of their Bundesliga games at SIGNAL-IDUNA-PARK this season, demonstrating their mastery of their home field.

They also enter this game having defeated Freiburg five times in a row, scoring up to 13 goals against them in their last three home games. In their 24 home games versus Freiburg, Dortmund has also won 20, drawn 3, and lost only once.

In view of this,  I highly anticipated a win for Dortmund with few goals scored as Freiburg's previous five league games finished with fewer than two goals scored.
