Brest vs Lyon Prediction: Lyon looking to climb up the table against an improving Brest

As Ligue 1 resumes on Wednesday, Brest will play host to Lyon at Stade Francis Le Ble in an effort to win consecutive home matches for the first time this season.

After Michel Der Zakarian was fired, Stade Brestois named Bruno Grougi as the interim manager of Brest. The 39-year-old has already amassed more points in five domestic games than his predecessor did in the team's first 10 league games in 2022–23. Brest now sits above the relegation line by the slimmest of margins, topping Auxerre because of a higher goal difference. Although their domestic form has improved, they enter this match having just lost two friendlies this month and given up three goals to both Osasuna (3-0) and Rennes (3-0).

OL have points in three of their previous five league matches under former World Cup champion Laurent Blanc, and they currently lie eighth in the table, seven points out of a European spot for next season. They have the same number of points after 15 games in this competition as they did at this point last season. They have only won once away from home this year, against Montpellier, and it ended a four-match losing streak for them on the road in league play.

Lyon still seems to be looking for their identity under Blanc despite having a lot of quality and experienced players. Brest doesn't appear to have nearly as much talent as its opponents on paper, but they have been more adept defensively at home in league play, and they appear to be able to handle OL when they visit.
