On Sunday night at the Stade de l'Abbe-Deschamps, Auxerre will play host to Paris Saint-Germain in the last game of game week 36 of the 2022–23 Ligue 1 season. The game might decide the perennial champions' fate as champions. While their hosts are romancing with relegation in 16th place, only one point clear of the dreaded dotted line, Christophe Galtier's side is six points ahead of Lens at the top of the standings entering the weekend.

Auxerre has not played well thus far this year. Due to last week's humiliating 1-0 loss to Brest, the home team will need to do better in this match. PSG, who now sit atop the league standings, has had an uncommonly erratic domestic campaign. The Parisian giants destroyed Ajaccio 5-0 in their previous match, and this weekend they hope to produce a similar result.

PSG will win by at least a three goal margin.

Auxerre (WWDLDL)

Christophe Pelissier's team was thanking its fortunate stars to lose by just one goal at the Stade Francis Le-Ble when Auxerre travelled to Brest last weekend. Had it not been for the heroics of Radu, the trip could have been much more humiliating for the team.

The game ended with a 1-0 victory for Brest to extend Auxerre's unfortunate losing streak. Auxerre is hovering just above danger in 16th place, one spot and one point ahead of Nantes in the final relegation spot, as the already doomed Ajaccio, Troyes, and Angers wait to find out who the fourth member of their Ligue 2-bound quartet will be. AJA have taken just two points from the last 12 points available in the top division.

Pelissier's team has won six straight games at the Stade de l'Abbe-Deschamps, defeating Lyon, Rennes, and Lille in the process. However, against Galtier's title-chasing squads, that streak may not mean much.

Auxerre may only have one health issue to consider for PSG's visit after surviving their defeat to Brest. Striker M'Baye Niang missed last weekend's game due to sickness and will require further evaluation before kickoff. Due to a knee issue, goalkeeper Radu was questionable before the trip to the Stade Francis Le-Ble, but he passed a late fitness test before producing a remarkable nine stops on the day.

Nuno Da Costa, the team's striker, was only able to play 64 minutes in the loss to Les Pirates as Pelissier kept an eye on an adductor issue, so if Niang is able to overcome his virus, he may be called up right away.

Having received his marching orders against Lorient, Hakimi was also issued a red card for an altercation with Thomas Mangani of Ajaccio last weekend. Both players have been given two-game suspensions. No sooner had he left the naughty step than he had to return.

Radu, Raveloson, Jubal, Jeanvier, I. Toure, Mensah, B. Toure, M'Changama, Massengo, Hein, Niang are potential starters for Auxerre.

PSG (WWWLWW)

PSG's previous game ended with a red card for Achraf Hakimi and jeers for Lionel Messi, who is now back in action. Although the Argentine's apologies for an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia had obviously not healed the rift with the Parisiens supporters, joy quickly overcame it as Galtier's team delivered Ajaccio a footballing lesson.

With a 5-0 thrashing of the visitors—who were sent back to the second tier as a result—Fabian Ruiz's deft finish, Hakimi's low strike, Mbappe's brace, and an own goal by Mohamed Youssouf, PSG made another big step toward regaining their position as the league's top dogs.

PSG has won each of their last five Ligue 1 away games, scoring at least two goals on each occasion. However, only two clean sheets from their last 10 on opposing turf may give their basement-battling hosts a glimmer of hope in 2023, where Les Parisiens have frequently lost at their Parc des Princes headquarters.

PSG defeated Auxerre 5-0 at Parc des Princes in November with hardly any effort, but strangely, they have failed to win any of their three Ligue 1 matches at the Stade de l'Abbe-Deschamps since the 2008-09 season.

With regards to injury, Pembele is still dealing with a knee injury, so his potential absence would leave Galtier incredibly short of options on the right side once more. PSG will continue to be without their plethora of long-term absentees, including Neymar, Kimpembe, Nordi Mukiele, and Nuno Mendes.

In his pre-game news conference, Galtier also disclosed that Marco Verratti has been working out on his own because of a niggle in his knee, but he is optimistic that the Italian will be ready for the weekend.

The potential starting lineup for Paris Saint-Germain includes Donnarumma, Pereira, Marquinhos, Ramos, Zaire-Emery, Ruiz, Verratti, Bernat, Messi, Ekitike, and Mbappe.

Expert Betting Tips

PSG is still in contention to capture a second league championship despite playing a deceptive game in Ligue 1 this year. This weekend, Kylian Mbappe will want to increase his goal total after having a strong season with the Parisians.

Despite having a strong home record currently, Auxerre will face a tough opponent. On paper, PSG appears to be the superior team and ought to prevail in this match. Auxerre was incredibly fortunate to lose to Brest by just one goal, and a more clinical PSG team will undoubtedly reward an equally passive performance. The defending champions might have to wait a bit longer for their traditional coronation, but at the very least, they will be on the verge of triumph if they defeat Auxerre routinely.

Potential scoreline could be 0-4, 0-3, 1-4, or 0-5 but safe bet to consider will be PSG handicap by 2 goals.
