Auxerre vs Ajaccio Prediction: Battle of the newly promoted teams

Auxerre will welcome Ajaccio at the Stade de l'Abbe-Deschamps on Sunday, as two freshly promoted Ligue 1 teams battle at the bottom of the standings.

Following Jean-Marc Furlan's sacking just over two weeks ago, Auxerre confirmed the appointment of Christophe Pelissier as their new manager on Wednesday, with the 57-year-old entrusted with guiding last season's Ligue 2 playoff champions out of the relegation zone.

Although Les Bleu et Blanc have scored in each of their previous five matches, a run of eight Ligue 1 games without a win has seen them drop to 18th in the table, including last weekend's 2-1 loss away at Reims.

Pelissier will be aware that there is little separating a lot of teams in the bottom half of the standings, and a win on Sunday might propel them to 13th place.

PSG handed Ajaccio their eighth defeat of the season last weekend, with star strikers Kylian Mbappe (2) and Lionel Messi both scoring.

Prior to this defeat, the Bears had picked up seven points from their previous four Ligue 1 games, including two away wins over Brest and Marseille and a 1-1 draw against Troyes.

Ajaccio has struggled to score goals this season, scoring only eight times in 12 Ligue 1 matches. They are currently 19th in the table and looking to move up.

Auxerre, who has struggled to win even on their home field in recent games, does not feel they have any chance of doing so this time. An away win or a draw seems the most likely result.
