Flamengo vs Fluminense Prediction: Can Flamengo Dominate the Defending Champions in Maracanã?

In the upcoming fixture of the Carioca Serie A, we have an interesting final lined up between Flamengo and Fluminense at the iconic Maracanã stadium in Rio de Janeiro. After competing in the league stage and then in the semifinals, we are now left with two sides, among which one will stand as the winner of Carioca Serie A at the completion of both legs. Fluminense and Flamengo both did demonstrate agile and competitive gameplay against the opposition in the semifinals. The last time these two teams played against each other, Fluminense won (1-2). After losing to Fluminense and Vasco da Gama in the league stage matches, Flamengo did buckle up and defeated Vasco da Gama in both legs of the semifinal. In the previous match against Vasco (1-3), Pedro was superb in finding the net twice. Moreover, the last-minute goal of Ayrton Lucas cemented the deal for Flamengo. Continuing with the 3-4-1-2 formation, Flamengo will be hoping for reasonable gameplay from De Arrascaeta and David Luiz. Talking about scoring averages, Flamengo has scored 7 goals in the last 5 matches, averaging 1.4 goals per game. However, in the semifinal, Flamengo was completely unstoppable. If Flamengo continues with the same striking gameplay, Fluminense might find winning tough in Maracanã. 

After losing the first leg away from home (2-1), Fluminense was down and out. However, in the last home fixture, Fluminense did manage to keep itself cool and win by a significant margin of 7-0. Moving forward in the big stage final, Fluminense will be hoping German Cano to carry the same striking form ahead and play his part in defending the title. Fluminense is likely to progress with an unchanged defense, with Martinelli, Nino, and Andre putting themselves in centre-back positions. With 18 goals scored in the last 5 matches, Fluminense is certainly entitled as the best striking side this season. However, the pressure of the final in Maracanã will have to be dealt with confidence. 

The former champions will be up against Flamengo, the side which has won the greatest titles in Carioca Serie A (37 titles). For the upcoming contest, if German Cano produces his terrific performance, the match could turn one-sided. However, I believe Flamengo will be up for the task and winning won’t be as easy as before for Fluminense. One thing is clear much will be decided in the last couple of minutes of play or will end in a draw. I am expecting a draw or Fluminense to win. Secondly, both sides are likely to score positively.
