Tunisia regularly participates in the World Cup finals but has never made to the playoffs. In the decisive round, they defeated the Malians 1:0 on an aggregate of two games. Just before the World Cup, Tunisians played a friendly with Iran, winning 2:0.

At the World Cup, Tunisia turned out to be in a tough group, waiting for the Danes, French and Australians. The only real competitor for Jalel Kadri's charges was the Socceroos. Still, the Eagles created a sensation in the opening match, sealing a draw with the Vikings - 0:0. The Danish side did have a slight advantage but gained a vital point that would allow them to dream of qualifying for the last 16.

Tunisia began their 2022 World Cup campaign with a goalless draw against Denmark. This was their first World Cup clean sheet since 1978. Moreover, Tunisia has failed to keep a clean sheet in 14 of their 15 games.

Australia failed to qualify for the finals from 1978 to 2002, but they finally did in 2006 and reached the last 16, their best result ever. After that, the Socceroos qualified for three consecutive World Cups, but each time they finished their campaign for the trophy in the group stage. The Socceroos also qualified for the tournament in Qatar, albeit with problems. They initially had to beat the UAE and Peru 2:1 and 1:0 in the knockout stages.

In Group D, Australia was the outsider, but in the opening game against the defending champions, they scored the opening goal in the 9th minute. Alas, it was their last one as they conceded twice before the break, and in the second half, Mathew Ryan conceded two more goals. The Socceroos will be fighting for third place in the quartet at best.

Australia scored first against the defending champion, France, and they will be looking for their first win in the World Cup group stage. Their last win was in 2010 against Serbia.

Almost all matches between comparable teams ended in a draw in the opening round. We should also expect nothing else in the upcoming battle as the teams were initially the Group D outsiders. They still are, although the Eagles snatched a draw from the Danes. The Red and Whites have a slightly better lineup, but the Socceroos also look quite combat-ready, so each team has an excellent chance to get one point.

The Australians in the first round have already risked going on the attack and received four goals. With that in mind, the Socceroos are unlikely to insist on open play. That said, the Tunisians had a monstrously dull game with the Danes but still got one point, so they will not deviate from their chosen tactics. 

Australia and Tunisia will want to have three points. Both teams know that losing this game will mean someone will be out of the opportunity to reach out to the last 16. It will be a very difficult match for both sides. Even though Australia had a good game against France, Tunisia will try to win. Tunisia will try to win for their continent because of their pride. But let’s remember that Australia scored first against France, and it will give them confidence. It will boost their morale, and they will score again against Tunisia.
