After Russell Martin left during the summer, Swansea City has had a challenging start to the 2023-24 season under new manager Michael Duff. They are currently one of the three teams in England's second tier without a win. The season began with draws against Birmingham City and Coventry City, followed by a loss to West Bromwich Albion and a win against Northampton Town in the EFL Cup. This left them with two points from three games before failing to earn any more points in the next three matches. In those matches, they lost a 1-0 lead against Preston North End, suffered defeats to Bournemouth in the EFL Cup and Bristol City in the league, and ended their winning streak in the South Wales Derby with a 2-0 loss against Cardiff City. Wanting to bounce back from this disappointing run, Swansea recently faced Queens Park Rangers, where they seemed on track to secure their first Championship win with an early goal from Josh Ginnelly. However, they were heartbreakingly equalized by a 92nd-minute goal from Lyndon Dykes. With pressure mounting on Duff and the team currently sitting in 22nd place with only three points from seven games, they are eager to end their winless start on their home ground this weekend.
Swansea City Predicted Lineup
Rushworth; Cabango, Wood, Humphreys; Ashby, Grimes, Fulton, Tymon; Ginnelly; Lowe, Yates
Sheffield Wednesday form
Sheffield Wednesday will face one of the lower-ranked teams in the Championship this weekend. After winning promotion through the League One playoffs last season, they are currently one point behind their opponents on Saturday. However, both teams have gone through a change in management this season. Xisco Munoz has taken over at Hillsborough for Sheffield Wednesday, while Darren Moore led them to promotion. Munoz's tenure has had a tough start, with four consecutive losses against Southampton, Hull City, Preston North End, and Cardiff City. They finally secured a point in a goalless draw against Leeds United before the international break. In their most recent game against Ipswich Town, they suffered a 1-0 defeat. This leaves Sheffield Wednesday with only one point from six matches. They will face Middlesbrough at Hillsborough on Tuesday, hoping to secure their first win of the season and climb up from the bottom of the division where they are currently tied with Middlesbrough. The pressure is mounting on Munoz and the club to turn their fortunes around. A win would see them surpass their upcoming opponents, Swansea City, in the standings.
Sheffield Wednesday Predicted Lineup
Vasquez; Bernard, Diaby, Famewo; Valentin, Byers, Bannan, Hendrick, Delgado; Smith, Musaba
Swansea City vs Sheffield Wednesday Expert Tips
Neither team has much confidence going into this weekend's important match. However, considering they have home advantage and a slightly stronger squad overall, the Swans should feel optimistic about outperforming Munoz's team and finally securing a victory to end their winless start. We expect a low scoring game with under 2.5 goals scored throughout.
