EFL Championship: Game Week 40
Stadium: Stadium of Light
7th April 2023
On Good Friday, Sunderland will try hard to increase their slim possibility of reaching the Championship playoff positions as they host Hull City at the Stadium of Light. Both the Black Cats and the Tigers aim to get back to winning after they had goalless draws in their previous matches against Burnley and Rotherham United, respectively.

Sunderland's recent form may have been a cause for concern, but their manager Tony Mowbray is taking the positives from their hard-fought point against league leaders Burnley. With 12 clean sheets under their belt, the Black Cats are ready to take on Hull in their Good Friday contest, aiming to turn their season around and make a late push for the playoffs. Though they have struggled on home soil recently, Mowbray is confident that his team's unbeaten record against Hull will stand them in good stead. With Cardiff City, Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town up next, Sunderland will be hoping to secure successive victories and climb up the league table.
Sunderland’s possible starting lineup
Gelhardt, Clarke, Diallo, Roberts, Neil, Ekwah, Cirkin, Batth, O'Nein, Hume and Patterson
Hull City’s Form
Last weekend, Hull took on Rotherham United in a fierce Yorkshire derby, but much like Sunderland, they struggled to find the back of the net and ended up with a frustrating 0-0 draw. Even with an extra man advantage after Domingos Quina was sent off for the Millers, the Tigers couldn't capitalize and secure the win. Their recent form has been less than ideal, with only one win in their last nine league games, dropping them down to 17th in the Championship standings. However, they have a chance to turn things around and climb up the table as they take on Sunderland in their next match. Although they haven't won any of their last six away matches, a victory on Good Friday could see them soar to 14th in the league and guarantee their place as a second-tier club for next season.
Hull City’s predicted lineup
Estupinan, Sayyadmanesh, Tufan, Ebiowei, Seri, Slater, Greaves, McLoughlin, Jones, Coyle and Darlow
Sunderland vs Hull City Expert tips
Rosenior is optimistic that Hull can achieve a top-half finish and exploit Sunderland's recent struggles at home. Nevertheless, after a tough battle against Burnley in their previous outing, we anticipate the Black Cats to triumph on Good Friday and move nearer to the top six. The game also has a big possibility to end in a draw. It is probable that the game will feature less than 2.5 goals.
