Sheffield Wednesday won the League One playoffs in 2022-23 to gain promotion back into the English Championship for the first time since relegation to that level in 2020-21. Peterborough United won the semi-final first leg 4-0, but the Owls came back to record a 5-1 win in the second leg, winning the tie after penalties. They won promotion from the Championship with a Josh Windass goal in extra time at Wembley Stadium. They were not really successful during their first season back in the Championship, finishing 20th and thus avoiding relegation by only a little. The team had a pretty poor start under manager Danny Rohl to this season as well, having been defeated recently 3-0 by Watford and thus still being three points clear of the drop zone.
Sheffield Wednesday Predicted Lineup
Beadle; Valery, Bernard, Iorfa; Valentin, Charles, Bannan, Johnson; Musaba, Smith, Windass
Norwich City form
Their match against Norwich City is another big test, as the Canaries sit at 10th place in the table and are desperate to end their four-match winless run. New manager Johannes Thorup would like his new team to stretch its unbeaten run against Sheffield Wednesday to seven games, four of which were victories. Owls will look to improve their game to possibly end this game at a positive with a hope to rise up in the table and prevent the potential situation of relegation.
Forecasted Lineup by Norwich City
Long; Fisher, Duffy, Cordoba, Doyle; Sorensen, Forsyth; Schwartau, Marcondes, Sainz; Crnac
Sheffield Wednesday vs Norwich City Predicted Winners
After the 6-2 loss to Watford in their last game, Rohl could change the game plan and play to the favorite 3-4-3. He could reinstate Pol Valentin in the right side position on the pitch. Sheffield Weds will be missing on Ben Hamer, Michael Ihiekwe, Nathaniel Chalobah and Olaf Kobacki as they were out with a long-term injury, another player Akin Famewo is also not available. Norwich City will be bereft of Angus Gunn, Anis Ben Slimane, Ashley Barnes, Liam Gibbs, Marcelino Nunez, and Onel Hernandez for this match due to a host of injury problems. Kenny McLean will serve a suspension for this encounter. Joshua Sargent does not look likely to take the field with a muscular problem, so Ante Crnac will again feature in the role of a forward. Both teams haven't been great lately, and Sheffield Weds went into the game following a big loss at home, while the visitors come in on a streak where they have lost without winning. This should make for a draw type of game, tonight.
