Plymouth have had a mixed start to their time in the second tier, winning four times but never managing to go more than two games without a loss. In their last six Championship matches, Steven Schumacher's team have only won once, with a 3-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Home Park. Despite taking an early lead, they lost 3-2 to Ipswich Town in their most recent game. Schumacher will be pushing his players to do their best this season, but he can take comfort in the fact that Plymouth have already created some distance between themselves and the bottom three teams. While Middlesbrough have won their last three away games in the Championship, Plymouth have the second-best record for goals scored when playing at home.
Plymouth Argyle Predicted Lineup
Cooper; Kesler-Hayden, Scarr, Gibson, Miller; Cundle, Randell, Azaz; Whittaker, Hardie, Mumba
Middlesbrough form
Michael Carrick must have been disappointed to see his Middlesbrough team lose their winning streak last weekend against Stoke City at home. This loss prevented Boro from moving up to sixth place. However, Carrick will likely take this defeat in stride as his team spent a majority of the first quarter of the season in the relegation zone. This loss to Stoke will serve as a wake-up call for the team and prevent any complacency going forward. Additionally, their recent comeback victory against Exeter City in the EFL Cup will also help to keep the team focused. Although the cup competition is not a top priority, Boro has a chance to reach the semi-finals if they can defeat Port Vale in their away match. In terms of league matters, they will face Leicester City after their contest against Plymouth. This puts even more pressure on Boro to perform well in their second trip to the South-West within a matter of days.
Middlesbrough Predicted Lineup
Dieng; Van den Berg, Fry, McNair, Engel; Howson, Hackney; Jones, Crooks, Greenwood; Latte Lath
Plymouth Argyle vs Middlesbrough Expert Tips
Given Plymouth's strong performance at home, they will have confidence in their ability to surpass their opponent, who might be exhausted. However, we believe that Boro's exceptional caliber will prevail, possibly in the later part of the match. Expect more than 2.5 goals in the game.
