After a four-game winless run in the Championship, Millwall managed to secure a much-needed victory on Saturday against Preston with goals from Tom Bradshaw and Zian Flemming. Despite concerns from supporters, Gary Rowett's men are still well in the hunt for promotion, currently sitting in fifth place, three points better off than seventh-placed Coventry City. However, finishes between eighth and 11th in the past three seasons have made the club cautious about getting carried away with their Premier League potential. Nevertheless, this season presents a real opportunity for Millwall to reach the playoffs, especially with the addition of attacking flair to their usual defensive solidity. Goalkeeper George Long has kept three clean sheets in his last four outings.
Millwall Predicted lineup
Long; McNamara, Hutchinson, Cooper, Malone; Mitchell, Saville, Burke, Flemming, Voglsammer; Bradshaw
Birmingham City Form
On Saturday, Birmingham's four-game unbeaten run came to an end against Sunderland, who are aiming for back-to-back promotions. Although Tahith Chong found George Hall to put the Blues in the lead, Trai Hume and Amad Diallo scored to give Sunderland a 2-1 victory.
Birmingham has now reached 50 points, making them all but safe from relegation to League One, with an eight-point cushion over Reading, who is currently in the relegation zone. Although Birmingham has failed to win in their last three visits to The Den, they will be encouraged by their 6-0 victory against Millwall back in January 2012, one of the brightest moments in their current 12-year stay in the Championship.
With a staged takeover of the club in the pipeline, Bluenoses will be hoping their team can challenge for promotion once again in the next few years, as the 2011-12 season was the last time Blues truly competed at the top of the Championship.
Birmingham City possible lineup
Ruddy; Colin, Roberts, Long, Trusty; Bielik, Hannibal, Chong, Bacuna, Khadra; Jutkiewicz
Millwall vs Birmingham City Expert Tips
After securing a vital win against Preston North End, Millwall's hopes of making the playoffs have been boosted, and they should be feeling more confident heading into their next game. Birmingham, who are not in contention for promotion or relegation, are unlikely to pose much of a threat, and Millwall should continue their impressive form against them. We expect less than 2.5 goals in the game.
