Luton Town vs Burnley Prediction: Both teams eyeing back to the premier league

This week, Luton Town looks to welcome Burnley at the Hillsborough Stadium in Game Week 1 of the English Championship. Both teams will eye getting back to the premier league. Who will rise victorious after 90 minutes?

The gallant effort in their first year in the top-flight for over three decades saw Luton face relegation with a finish in 18th place in last season's final Premier League standings. The team was able to secure just a single win in their last 17 matches and ultimately ended up six points adrift from safety. While manager Rob Edwards performed commendably at Kenilworth Road, his team couldn't avoid the drop.

Looking ahead to the season ahead, Edwards now looks to regroup and focus on making a swift return to the Premier League. They started their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 defeat by AGF Aarhus and then went on to win one, lose two, and draw one of their subsequent games. The summer program ended in the salient form of a dire 3-1 defeat to Celta Vigo.

Luton were abysmal last season, especially at home, where they recorded a victory on only four occasions. Following the relegation, the team feels that the mistakes are learnt from, and they would fare much better this time around. Their first match in the Championship, though, could not be any tougher against Burnley, who Luton have failed to beat in the last eight league meetings between the two clubs, earning a single point last term.

Following four successive away wins at Luton back in October, Burnley are seeking to make it five on the trot under new boss Scott Parker. Vincent Kompany left for Bayern Munich, as did Craig Bellamy to the Wales national team, in the wake of the team's relegation to the Premier League. This meant that a Championship expert was needed to drag Burnley back out, and that came in the form of Parker. Parker has been busy in the summer transfer market and has assessed his squad through a series of private games against different opposition. They drew with Leganes and Cadiz in a training camp in Spain to round off their pre-season. Burnley has never lost in their first fixture of the last six Championship campaigns, and they will do everything within their powers to keep this run intact on this day.
