Leeds United have started their busy period in the festive season after facing a narrow defeat to Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. They won the preceding three games consecutively over Derby County and Middlesbrough before facing Preston last Saturday. Being favourites, Leeds was in danger of losing until the 93rd minute when an own goal from Jack Whatmough leveled the score after Brad Potts had opened the scoring. Now occupying second place in the Championship standings, Leeds is one point ahead of Burnley and three points behind Sheffield United.
Leeds has dropped only five points in 11 home matches this season and has the best home record in the division. The last time they lost at home was in September. Joel Piroe has been a consistent goalscorer for Leeds, netting seven from 21 appearances, while Brenden Aaronson and Dan James have added five and four goals respectively.
Oxford United form
Oxford United has decided to terminate head coach Des Buckingham in what is termed "best interest of the club" following the tough loss at the Kassam Stadium against Coventry City 3-1. Hopes that had opened with a possibility of being a success in this season are fast diminishing, but this is with them yet to record wins in the second tier of the Championship. Despite taking a lead with a goal by Gregory Leigh, Oxford City could not sustain their lead into the end of the game with Sheffield Wednesday staging a superb comeback with goals from Josh Windass, Jamal Lowe and Djeidi Gassama.
The team's performance has considerably gone down, leading to a six-game winless streak and a 20th place in the Championship table. The team is now six points away from the relegation bottom spot with Portsmouth and Cardiff City. Oxford United, Cardiff City, and Plymouth Argyle have lost none of their nine matches played away from home and have all conceded 18 goals this season.
As they look forward to the next opponent, hopes are high that Oxford United will turn their fortunes around. Their game against Leeds at Elland Road brings back memories of their last encounter in August 2012, where Leeds emerged victorious in an EFL Cup match.
Leeds United vs Oxford United Expert Tips
Having won nine out of their 11 home matches in the Championship this season, Leeds should feel very assured of defeating relegation-threatened Oxford this weekend. With the Oxford currently without a permanent manager after Buckingham's dismissal, their lack of direction may only result in a defeat at Elland Road.
