A fourth game in succession without a win for newly-promoted Derby County since returning from the October international break saw them emerge victorious for the first time in a month last night. The club played across the Midlands away at Coventry, a struggling team. Jerry Yates, who formerly played for Blackpool, was the man on the score sheet when he gave the Rams the early initiative at 11 minutes. Derby added to this lead with a penalty in the second half from Bobby Thomas, and all the action of Coventry could muster was a consolation goal from Tatsuhiro Sakamoto after Mark Robins became the manager.
They moved three points clear of Plymouth, who head to Pride Park this weekend, after playing 14 Championship matches as a result of their much-needed win earlier in the week.
Paul Warne's side takes the haul of 13 points from the first six home matches of the Championship with them into this weekend at Pride Park. The last match played at that venue ended in a pretty lame draw against Hull City.
Derby County Predicted Lineup
Zetterstrom; Jackson, Nelson, Phillips, Cashin, Forsyth; Goudmijn, Adams, Thompson; Brown, Yates
Plymouth Argyle form
Plymouth Argyle narrowly avoided relegation to League One last season and appears likely to face another difficult task under the tutelage of newly appointed Wayne Rooney, an erstwhile player for Manchester United and the national team of England and yet still untested as a manager. The team finally ended their four-game losing streak with a win over Portsmouth, who are at the bottom of the league with just one win from 14 games.
Plymouth is still in 22nd place but now reaches 15 points from 14 games, within reach now of teams like Luton Town, Preston North End and Cardiff City. While Plymouth is doing well after the relegation period, they have not been fortunate away since their promotion to League One in 2023, winning only three out of 29 matches in the Championship. So far this season, they have not won any of the six league matches played away from home.
Derby County Possible Starting Lineup
Hampton; Forsyth, McGoldrick, Lowe, Buchanan; Watson, Grainger; Shinnie, Bielik, Morrel; Waghorn
Derby County vs Plymouth Argyle Expert Prediction
Considering Derby registered an important victory at Coventry just a few days ago, they will be going into the match at home against Plymouth in very high spirits. Bottom-of-the-table Plymouth, in fact, did beat Portsmouth last weekend at home, but on the whole, Plymouth have been pretty poor away from home and it is unlikely that they can turn it around to win against Derby this weekend.
