Welcome to MTN 8 Cup; just like the EFL Cup in England, the competition name bears its title sponsor. A competition where the top eight teams last season will compete with each other. Cape Town City will unwrap the tournament with a game against Amazulu.
Cape Town City
One of the best teams in the league last season with forty-nine points in thirty games, they finished below Mamelodi Sundowns in second place. The Citizens also lost the MTN8 final to Sundowns on penalties, giving them a rightful claim to being the second-best side in the country. They hope to get better this coming season, but how they manage with the extra pressures of a maiden Caf Champions League campaign will be the definitive factor.
The Citizens have drawn three, won once in the last three at-home games this season, and only scored once in those encounters.
Amazulu
The Green Mamba are the most improved team in the league with three wins, a loss and a draw. They have scored seven goals this season while conceding four times. They sit comfortably at the top of the log with ten points from a possible twelve.
More recently, they saw off a strong Moroka Swallows side as they secured all the points on matchday 4. Their striking department has been immense and just needed a bit of adjustment at the back to compete with the top guns this season.
Expert Betting Tips
Both teams met once in this competition, ending in a Cape Town City win.
The home team head into this match after a comfortable victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the league. We expect them to replicate such form here with a home win or draw and over 1.5 goals for 1.80.
The visiting side on the other end have been fantastic this season, and although they head into this match on the back of a loss, we expect them to get a goal each for 2.20.
This game might end in a halftime draw for 1.91.
