Flamengo vs Cuiabá Prediction: Flamengo needs to get back on its feet

Tite's team suffered a tough 3-0 home defeat against Atlético-MG in a crucial game for both teams. Flamengo dropped the lead it shared with Palmeiras, now alone at the top with 66 points, to be joined by Botafogo and Atlético Mineiro, both on 63 points. Mathematically, it's still possible for all these teams to win the title, but due to the goal difference, a win should be enough for Palmeiras to reclaim their title. The top four teams qualify for the Copa Libertadores, but fifth-placed Grêmio has 62 points and is hoping for a slip-up from a competitor.

A bad start to the game against the rooster was fatal for the Scarlet-Black. Atlético scored early, after 8 minutes, thanks to Paulinho, and made life very difficult for Flamengo. Scolari's team has the best defense in the league and showed it at the Maracanã, rarely allowing the home team to create danger. The title now seems almost impossible for the Cariocas, but that's not why this game with Cuiabá is no longer important. They need to win to gain points on their nearest rivals. The team from Mato Grosso do Sul defends well, and Flamengo will need a lot of patience if the goal doesn't come early.

The Dourado achieved its main objective of the season, escaping relegation. Still, the defeat at home to Internacional in the last round may have complicated Cuiabá's qualification for the Copa Sudamericana. The team is now in 12th place, the last place that grants qualification for the South American competition.  Corinthians is just one point behind, threatening Cuiabá, which has been in mid-table for most of the season. Away from home, António Oliveira's team is competent and will be looking to bring a point from the Maracanã. It would be inglorious for Cuiabá not to finish in the top 12 after an excellent season.

Flamengo is forced to win its last home game after a disappointing defeat to Atlético Mineiro. Its title chances are remote, but direct qualification for the Copa Libertadores is not guaranteed. Cuiabá will try to defend well and not concede to bring home a point. I'm backing the Cariocas to win with a maximum of three goals scored.
