T1 is on a roll at the League of Legends 2024 World Championship. In the quarterfinals, they beat Chinese team Top Esports (TES) 3-0. Despite a tough 2024 season where T1 players only just made it to the World Championships, the legendary Lee 'Faker' Sang-hyeok team showed they should not be written off. In the first match, both teams were on par for a long time, but in the 27th minute, T1 turned the game around by winning the crucial fight for Baron. They then wrapped up the game with a 13-5 kill advantage, with Lee 'Gumayusi' Min-hyeong on Caitlin in particular standing out.
In the second match, the reigning world champions were dominant, finishing the game without a single kill and increasing their lead in the series to 2-0. Faker on Ari was the clear standout with six kills, while Gumayusi on Zaya and Choi 'Zeus' Woo-je on Rumble also made valuable contributions with several vital kills. The TES opponents tried to fight back on the third map, but T1 had already taken control. After 37 minutes of play, the South Korean team wrapped up the series, nailing their spot in the semi-finals. Gumayusi was on fire again with a perfect KDA, racking up seven kills and three assists for Zeus.
Gen.G
Gen.G missed out on a stunning defeat to FlyQuest, securing their place in the semifinals of the League of Legends 2024 World Championship. The South Korean team, tipped as one of the favorites to win this year, came up against some unexpected tough competition from FlyQuest in North America. Gen.G, who qualified for the tournament after winning the Mid-Season Invitational 2024 and doing well in the LCK, had a strong run through the Swiss stage, beating Weibo Gaming, Top Esports, and Hanwha Life Esports. FlyQuest, the first team of the LCS, had a tough time making it to the playoff stage, only beating Team Liquid in the last game of the Swiss. Many thought the Gen.G players would breeze through the quarterfinals, but the FlyQuest team from the US surprised everyone by winning the first map in just 31 minutes. Gen.G quickly leveled the score, but on the third map, the FlyQuest players took the lead again, winning a long 42-minute game. It seemed like the game would be close, but the Gen.G team managed to pull together and win the last two maps, ending the series 3-2. FlyQuest put up a good fight, and Gen.G was lucky to avoid a historic defeat that could have been one of the most high-profile in LoL cybersports history.

Bookmakers have Gen.G Esports as the favorite, but as the quarterfinal games showed, the semifinals are not all that clear. Gen.G has been on a roll against T1, but in a week, T1 led by Faker can turn the tables.
