G2 Esports vs Saigon Buffalo
Format: BO1
24.05.2022, 11:00
On Tuesday, May 24, the final game day of the Rumble stage of this year's first international LoL tournament will take place. G2 Esports and Saigon Buffalo will meet on the first matchday of the Mid-Season Invitational 2022.
The Mid-Season Invitational 2022 is a LAN tournament in the cybersports discipline of League of Legends, featuring the winners of the spring splits of 11 separate Riot leagues, with LCL not sending a representative this spring due to the cancellation of the LCL spring split. It was also announced on April 21 that the LPL representative would compete online from China due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and all teams will compete at 35ms to level the playing field. The tournament prize money is $250,000.

After two days of play on stage two of MSI 2022, G2 Esports was the clear leader, rising from the dark side to emerge as the clear favorite in this international tournament. And that was really the case as the original favorites, T1 and RNG teams, were beaten. The next two days were extremely unsuccessful for the Europeans. First, some unreal Kryptonite appeared in the face of PSG Talon, who managed to beat G2 twice (!!!). Then T1 and RNG got their rematches as well. And in the end, it so happened that four defeats followed four wins in a row. Have the Spaniards relaxed? The situation is tense. Evil Geniuses is 4-4. With the match against the Americans, G2 will close this tournament stage. It is important not to make mistakes and can still take a good place in the table without the semi-finals with RNG.
While the Chinese sit online, G2 Esports clearly intends to take back the "power" in their devices. For a second, the Spanish organization in LoL has a glorious history. They have only reached the finals twice in the Mid-Season Invitational series tournaments, winning in 2019 and walking away as vice-champions in 2017.
The 2021 G2 Esports team had a frankly weak year for themselves. They didn't qualify for any international tournaments, not even making it to the finals in the LEC, either in spring or summer. The team needed a change, so three replacements were made during the winter transfer window: BrokenBlade from the Schalke Bundesliga team came to the top, Flakked moved from the MAD Lions, and the starting position was taken by Targamas, who moved from Karmine Corp.
The new roster helped, and G2 Esports regained the LEC crown this spring, securing a spot in this Mid-Season Invitational 2022. This tournament is certainly the right time to make a strong statement, especially since the Chinese will not be in the arena and may not be as scary online as they are on the stage.
Saigon Buffalo: Is there any motivation to play?
Saigon Buffalo has already lost all chances of making the playoffs, but to be honest, few believed the Vietnamese could reach the semi-finals. In four days of play, the boys could only defeat PSG Talon in their last match, and they did much to hurt their opponent's chances of qualifying further. With a 1-7 match record, the Vietnamese will certainly not slam the door on G2 - they most probably did that already in PSG Talon, who, ironically, will be just one point short of qualifying for the semis.
The Vietnamese have shocked by advancing to this stage of MSI 2022 from a tough group for themselves. Yes, with T1, there was clearly no chance (and now there isn't), but Saigon Buffalo sent home Japan's experienced DetonatioN FocusMe team.
Saigon Buffalo (formerly known as Dashing Buffalo, Phong Vũ Buffalo, and Young Generation) is a Vietnamese professional cybersports organization. The LoL team is known on the international arena. At various times Buffalo became a member of the World Championships and MID Series tournaments. But the internationals for this Vietnamese team ended back in 2019, so they are to be congratulated on their return to the big game.
The Buffaloes are extremely good in the spring, they became the vice-champions of VCS Spring 2022, just like a year ago, losing in the final to the GAM Esports team (1:3). Just the champions should have gone to the Mid-Season Invitational 2022. Still, the GAM Esports team decided not to participate in MSI due to the participation of players of this roster in the 31st Asian Games with the Vietnamese team. Saigon Buffalo is invited to the MSI as a winner of the Asian VCS league.
