Team Spirit faced Nouns twice in 2024—at the BetBoom Dacha Dubai and PGL Wallachia Season 1—and both times, came out on top without losing a single map. However, things took a turn at The International 2024. In the first match of the series that would decide who would get the top playoff spot, the teams had some good chances, but Nouns took control and went on the offensive. After an intense 45 minutes of play, the American team managed a surprising victory on the first map.
Building on their success, Nouns started the second game with a strong offensive strategy, putting immense pressure on Team Spirit and limiting their opportunities for free farming. Even with Spirit's strong heroes, such as Lina in the hands of Yatoro and Doom in Collapse, Nouns, led by Yuma on Luna, managed to dominate and end the series 2-0. This means that Team Spirit will have to pull off an incredible comeback to continue their quest for the title of three-time champions, intensifying the competition.
G2.iG
Team G2.iG went head-to-head with Gaimin Gladiators in a crucial series, securing their spot in the top set of playoffs at The International 2024 in Copenhagen. The second game was particularly crucial for G2.iG. GG came out strong in the first game, using an aggressive strategy and well-organized team play. G2.iG, counting on key ultimates and flawless execution, couldn't gather the necessary items in time, resulting in their defeat in 25 minutes. The standout moment in the game was Ace on Underlord, who used Fiend's Gate to effectively control the map.
In the second game, G2.iG tried to make a comeback with Sand King and a Mirana-Shadow Demon combo. Despite some early difficulties, they managed to hold on long enough for their Luna to take down GG's builds in a powerful push. However, in the third and final game, GG once again demonstrated their superior skills by taking heroes with solid physical attacks and map control, such as Windranger and Visage. G2.iG couldn't maintain the pressure, and GG wrapped up the game in 35 minutes. So, G2.iG is heading to the lower grid, which means Xtreme Gaming is now the only Chinese team left in the upper grid of the playoffs.
