Seattle Mariners vs Cleveland Guardians Prediction: An Exciting Start to the Series

Last year, Seattle had a 92-70 record. The New York Yankees defeated the Guardians in five games in the AL Division Series after they had won the AL Central. For Seattle Mariners, Luis Castillo will be in the spotlight as the home side looks to start well in the season. In his 25 games of pitching last year, Castillo had a 27.2% K-rate, a 3.07 FIP, a 3.7 WAR, a 1.08 WHIP, and a.210 batting average against. Julio Rodriguez, Teoscar Hernandez, Ty France, and Kolton Wong are all elite offensive players for Seattle. The Mariners' offence will be considerably scarier if a player like Jarred Kelenic can live up to the promise. Due in part to this team's slightly constrained offensive, Seattle's games last season went under more often than they went over.

Although there is enthusiasm for this Guardians club, they will be suffering as pitcher Triston McKenzie will miss two months of action. I'm hoping he'll be better completely shortly. Despite the loss to their star pitcher in the rotation, Cleveland is the favorite to win the AL Central. The 2020 Cy Young Award winner, Shane Bieber, will start the season opener for the Guardians in Seattle. Bieber was sixth in the Cy Young voting last year. With 31 starts under his belt, Shane recorded a 2.87 FIP, 4.9 WAR, a 25% K-rate, a 1.04 WHIP, and a.228 batting average. Last season, Bieber had a 1.07 WHIP, 2,86 FIP, and a .235 batting average against when playing on the road.

However, I am predicting a very competitive start to the series, and total runs to be under 7.5. With the likes of Emmanuel, James Karinchak, and Trevor Stephan in the lineup, Cleveland will be pretty comfortable while tacking Seattle late in the innings. I am backing Cleveland to win, as they dominated Seattle in the very recent meeting before the start of the 2023 season.
