Heading into this series, the San Diego Padres have a 1-4 record in their last five matches, securing a split win against the Arizona Diamondbacks. 

Oakland Athletics have a lot to prove here, following a poor performance into this game. Prior game to this series saw the Oakland Athletics play the Seattle Mariners in a three-game series and then lost two of those games before avoiding a sweep loss against the Toronto Blue Jays, thanks to a game 1 2-1 win. This side has lost the first two games of this series, scoring four runs while conceding 10. In the MLB this season, Oakland Athletics have a 26-43 record, positioning them 14th in the standings of the American League.

Oakland Athletics have been awful in recent series, but it is vital to note they have not suffered a sweep loss. While the San Diego Padres also look very sharp and play decently well, there are still reservations, considering they have struggled sometimes in the last series.
