Detroit Tigers vs San Francisco Giants Prediction: Expect an entertaining close contest

Monday's Major League Baseball action from Comerica Park features a matchup between the San Francisco Giants and the Detroit Tigers. This will be a make-up game between series for both teams; however, it will be a one-off game. Over the course of the weekend, the Giants faced off against the Nationals, and both of their games ended in defeat. On Sunday, San Francisco suffered a defeat by a margin of five runs. As for Detroit, they were unable to win either of their first two games against the Padres. The Tigers were able to halt the sweep with a two-run victory in the last game of the series.

In their first two games of the weekend, the San Diego Padres defeated the Detroit Tigers by scores of 14-3 and 5-4, respectively. In game two, there were hits recorded by eight different players (including Zack Short, who contributed two runs batted in), but the Tigers were unable to capitalize on their opportunities very effectively. Kerry Carpenter, Spencer Torkelson (a solo home run), and Riley Greene each contributed two hits to the winning effort for the Detroit Tigers in the championship game, which they won 3-1. Tarik Skubal is going to take the mound for the Tigers on Monday as the team's starting pitcher. After three starts, Skubal has a record of 0-1 with a 5.25 earned run average and 14 strikeouts in 12.0 innings pitched. Skubal's previous outing against the Kansas City Royals resulted in a loss for him, as he allowed seven earned runs over four innings.

The San Francisco Giants were defeated by the Washington Nationals in both of their games this past weekend, falling by scores of 5-3 and 10-1, respectively. On Saturday, the offense for the San Francisco Giants managed only five hits, and Joc Pederson was responsible for two of those hits. The Giants' season ended with a disappointing 6-1 loss. That brings the total number of runs scored by the San Francisco Giants in this series to just five. Wilmer Flores was the only player in the loss to have more than one hit, as he went 2-for-4 with his hits. The San Francisco Giants are coming into this match having accumulated a 0.5400 win percentile through the first 100 games of the season. Only 54 of those 100 games were won by the San Francisco Giants, while they were defeated in 46 of those games.

It's likely that I'll stick with the Giants. A portion of that can be attributed to Skubal, who in his most recent start was responsible for allowing seven earned runs on eight hits while also walking one batter. However, before that, Skubal pitched eight innings, allowing only two hits and two walks while not allowing any earned runs, so it is possible that he will be relatively effective while he is pitching on Monday. In spite of this, I do not believe that Skubal will make it through more than four or five innings. The Giants' offense struggled mightily on Sunday; San Francisco has scored just eight runs over the course of their previous five games combined, so the team is going to require an offensive spark in order to turn things around. If the Giants can achieve that, I believe they will be fine moving forward.
