Detroit Tigers vs Atlanta Braves Prediction: Exceptional performance expected from the Braves

Monday's Major League Baseball action from Comerica Park features a matchup between the Atlanta Braves and the Detroit Tigers. The Braves have recently completed a series against the Nationals. On Sunday, the Braves suffered a defeat by a score of four, following a pair of victories in the first two games. Regarding Detroit, they competed against Arizona over the weekend and were defeated in both of their matches. The Tigers were defeated once more in the last round. 

Both the first game, which they played against the Diamondbacks, and the second game, which they played against them on Saturday, ended in losses for the Detroit team. The Tigers had 11 hits as a team on Sunday, but they were unable to do much of anything until the fourth inning of their 7-5 loss. The majority of the pitching during the game was done by Joey Wentz, who went 4.1 innings and allowed two earned runs, one hit, and two walks. The Detroit Tigers have not won any of their previous nine matches, with their most recent victory coming against the Texas Rangers back in May. 

The Braves defeated the Nationals in both games of their weekend series, winning game one 3-2 and game two 6-4. The final game of the weekend was played on Sunday, and Atlanta was defeated 6-2 after allowing five runs in the sixth inning. Bryce Elder, the starting pitcher, was only able to last 5.1 innings and allowed five earned runs on eight hits while walking one batter. On Monday, the Braves will send out Charlie Morton as their starting pitcher. Morton has a record of 5-6 on the season with a 3.89 ERA, 77 strikeouts in 69.1 innings pitched, and 12 starts. After 335 games (334 starts), Morton has compiled a career record of 121-107 with an earned run average of 4.03. 

It's likely that I'll stick with the Braves. Morton is going to require a strong beginning as well as some assistance from the batting order, though. Morton has a combined record of 0-2 over his last three outings, during which he has allowed nine earned runs across 17.0 innings. After 4.2 innings pitched against the Mets, he was charged with four earned runs. On Sunday, the Atlanta Braves were unable to score beyond the first inning due to a difficult sixth inning. They are going to need a strong comeback performance here, but I believe the Braves are up to the challenge.
