Chicago Cubs vs Washington Nationals Prediction: Nationals won’t give in easily

On Thursday, Major League Baseball action will take place at Wrigley Field, featuring a matchup between the Washington Nationals and the Chicago Cubs. The Nationals won the first game of the series by two runs, but the Cubs came back on Tuesday and won by a significant margin to draw the series even. 

The Cubs managed to score two in both the sixth and seventh innings, but they were unable to climb out of their deficit and win the game. In game two, Chicago's Seiya Suzuki (4-for-6, two runs), Mike Tauchman (1-for-3, run), and Miguel Amaya (2-for-5, run) all contributed to their team's success by driving in three runs each. Thursday will be the day that Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks takes the mound for his team. Hendricks has a record of 3-4 after 10 starts, with a 3.57 earned run average, 37 strikeouts, and 58.0 innings pitched. Hendricks has appeared in 233 games (232 starts) throughout his career, with a record of 90-65 with a 3.46 earned run average (ERA). In his career, Hendricks has a record of 5-2 while starting versus Washington, and his team has a record of 9-2 when he is the starting pitcher.

The third and final game of a series will take place shortly. The Nationals captured the first game by a score of two runs, but the Cubs came back on Wednesday and won by a significant margin to tie the series. The Nationals currently have a percentage of 0.400, which places them in the 14th slot in the rankings of the National League heading into this game. Even though they have competed in a total of 95 matches since the beginning of the season, they have only managed to come out on top 38 times while also suffering defeat in 57 of those encounters. 

It's possible that I'll wager on the Nationals in this game. Considering how difficult Tuesday's defeat was, however, I'm probably going to avoid this one. Hendricks has not had much success in any of his most recent starts. In his last 10.1 innings, he has allowed nine earned runs on the back of 18 hits while walking nobody. During that span, Hendricks has a record of 0-1. On Wednesday, Washington ought to have some chances to make progress. On Tuesday, the Nationals were in the lead until the bottom of the sixth inning, but the remaining three innings were enough to put them out of the game. On the other hand, Washington has won six of their last seven games by scoring four or more runs, so I am optimistic about their offensive performance in game three.
