Kansas City Chiefs vs New York Giants: The Chiefs can't lose

Before the start of the season, Kansas City were already regarded as one of the favourites to win the league title. But after the first seven weeks, the Chiefs have a negative balance of wins and losses. The NFL's best player, by most accounts, Patrick Mahomes, can't find his game. And the defense, which hasn't exactly been star-studded in past seasons, has gotten even worse. Almost hopeless.

The Giants have no claim to opponent status. The team is rebuilding. It has been rebuilding for a long time, and it is hard. We have not seen much promise behind that rebuild so far. But New York is capable of putting up a decent game on its own.

Patrick Mahomes is the sunshine boy of American football. From his first season, he has begun to show that he is the future of the NFL. Brady, Brees, Rodgers got a worthy replacement on the Everest of superlatives in the Chiefs quarterback. Great passing, phenomenal athleticism, incredible technique, which he honed in another sport - baseball. His dad was a professional baseball player, and Patrick played high school and college baseball. Not only does he carry on the tradition of the great quarterbacks of the past, but he brings a lot of surprising, wonderful, and new things to the game.

And at the age of 24, Mahomes has become the highest-paid athlete in the world. His contract is valued at $503 million. He earns an average of one million dollars per hour on the football field. He has taken his club to the Super Bowl twice, winning the title of most valuable player of the season. But this year, he is just bad!

They say after last week's loss to the Titans, Mahomes unleashed a powerful speech right in the team locker room. He's not happy. Unhappy with the results, unhappy with his teammates. But above all, he is dissatisfied with himself. The overall message is: I promise I will do better, and I hope you will do better with me.

We've already written that the Giants are in rebuilding mode. Their young quarterback Daniel Jones is extremely unstable. But he's looking pretty good in away games. He has a quarterback rating of 100+ in three straight road games. Other than that, he's playing pretty well in the night games, especially in the MNF.

Leonard Williams is good. The leader of New York's defense, the 27-year-old quarterback, has made sacks in three of the last four games. And his pressure on Mahomes could be a cornerstone.

Add to that the decent return of receiver Darius Slayton (63 yards in the previous meeting) and the decent play of his offensive partners Pettis and Engram. And then there's Barkley, Shepherd, Tony, and Golladay. Except there are questions about their health. Will they be available?

The Giants have two wins and five losses on the season. That said, they won their last meeting last week (a 25-3 win over the Panthers).

The Chiefs are not living up to expectations. Three wins and four defeats are not what you should have expected from a championship contender. The Chiefs lost to Tennessee 27-3 in the last week.

The Chiefs have no right to lose to New York on Monday Night. No excuses are accepted. Kansas must win. And they have to win with confidence. And dominate the game. It'll put the fans and the team back in a positive frame of mind. It'll bring back the contenders for a 50% win-loss margin. It'll just bring back Kansas City. There is simply no other option!
