Greek Maria Sakkari beat Polish Iga Swiatek in the Group Stage of the WTA Finals. Sakkari won 6-2, 6-4, winning her third game this season versus Swiatek.

Both players committed a ton of double-faults with Sakkari having 5 while Iga with 6. Sakkari had a pronounced edge in terms of first-serve win % which read 96% and that became Swiatek’s undoing. Maria also had a prolific edge in terms of receiving points, having a 26-11 edge there, and took 3 out of 8 breakpoints.

In other games so far in the tournament, Karolina Pliskova has beaten Garbine Muguruza 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(8-6) while Anett Kontaveit beat Barbora Krejcikova 6-3, 6-4. Today Paula Badosa will clash against Aryna Sabalenka at 01:30 AM UTC.
