FIFA and European football bigwigs got together for a virtual meeting to discuss the future of International World Cups. FIFA’s president Gianni Infantino has said that although he doesn’t have a clue yet how the agreement for a world cup every two years between FIFA and football playing nations will look like, he is still positive that a consensus will be reached. Many European nations have threatened a boycott but Infantino said that they didn’t discuss that particular matter.
The debate has been and will probably continue to be heated. I understand being passionate myself about football that you can have different opinions. We have received some legitimate criticism and some enthusiastic comments as well. It is so important for everyone to make their voice heard. Boycotts were not discussed today. I am confident on 20 December we will be able to present a common solution.
