Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers played a thriller and the scores got tied but the Scorchers came on top during the Super Over. Batting first, Perth made 121 runs for five wickets and a late charge by Tegan and Sarah ensured that Adelaide tie the score. Once again, Devine smoked a couple of sixes to seal the deal in Super Over for Perth.
Middle-order crumbles for Perth
The Perth Scorchers got off to an above-average start with batting stalwarts Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine putting on a 59 runs partnership in 53 balls. However, once Dane van Niekerk claimed Sophie’s wicket, things went downhill for the Scorchers. Most of the mayhem came via immaculate spinner Amanda Jade-Wellington who took the wicket of Mooney. Then, all-rounder Tahlia McGrath removed the dangerous but out-of-form Marizzane Kapp and Scorchers saw themselves lose three wickets for 73 runs.
Amanda had more damage to do and took the wicket of a well-set Chamari Atthapathu. Heather Graham tried to gather some momentum but fell after making 20-ball 22 runs although just with five deliveries left. Chloe Piparo hit what turned out to be a crucial boundary in retrospect as Perth somehow got to 121. Amanda Jade-Wellington had top-notch returns of two wickets for 12 runs in four overs, Megan Schutt gave just 19 runs in four overs for a wicket, while Darcie Brown returned figures of 19 runs in three overs.
Adelaide collapses but the lower-order to the rescue!
Strikers got reduced to 97/7, unable to get any momentum throughout the innings. The team needed 25 runs in 18 balls. After a tight over by a precise Alana King, the team needed 20 off 12. In the second-last over, Tegan McPharlin hit a boundary on the first delivery which enabled the team to take 11 off the over. Kapp had 9 to defend in her last over.
When Tegan pumped a boundary off the second ball of the over, Strikers needed 4 runs in 4 balls. Kapp’s experience came in handy here and she spent just three runs in the four balls and Coyte got run out on the last ball. In the Super-Over, Strikers could manage just 8 runs. Devine didn’t take long to finish off the business and pumped two sixes in two balls to seal the deal for the Scorchers. Beth Mooney received the Player of the Match award for her 36 runs in just 33 balls.
