Hobart Hurricanes overcame Melbourne Stars by 6 six wickets in a crucial game for both teams. Stars have now lost three games this season while only winning two. This turned out to be the only second win of the season for the Hurricanes.
Bouchier shines again and Garth digs in too
Elyse Villani and Annabel Sutherland put on 48 runs for the first wicket, however, the Stars lost Annabel after she had struggled for timing, making just 12 runs. Batting superstar Meg Lanning continued her poor form and fell after contributing just 3 runs. The bleeding didn’t stop there for the Stars and Villani also got out as the team lost three wickets for 9 runs, being reduced to three for 57.
However, Maia Bouchier and Kim Garth put on a terrific 83 runs partnership taking only 60 deliveries. Bouchier played another solid inning and made 42 runs in 33 balls while Kim Garth turned up with 44 runs off 29 balls inning, leading their team to 144. Tayla Vlaemnick scooped up three wickets with her pace and conceded just 27. Ruth Johnston also kept it tight, giving just 24 runs in four overs.
Mignon du Preez turns the heat on for Hurricanes
Hobart suffered another slow start and both Johnston and skipper Rachel Priest didn’t have an easy time. Johnston fell on just the fourth delivery of Hobart’s effort and Priest scored 23 runs taking 27 deliveries, both claimed by Day and Garth respectively. However, Mignon du Preez and Nicola Carey put on a 74 runs partnership for the fourth wicket but then Carey got run out. Sutherland had du Preez’s wicket but she had already done the damage, makign 62 runs in 45 deliveries. Richa Ghosh laid the finishing touch for Hurricanes with a fantastic 16-ball 24 runs effort.
