Perth Scorchers hammered the Sydney Thunder to register their second victory of the tournament. Batting first, Perth made 186/2 after Devine destroyed the Thunder bowling. The batting of Thunder looked off-color all game long and it had no chance throughout the chase.

The Devine carnage

Sophie Devine smacked her third century in the WBBL and showed there are a lot of runs left in her. First Sammy Jo-Johnson felt her fury, who got hit for 17 runs in the eighth over. But no one would have been as much as hurt as Anika Learoyd, who saw Devine hitting her for six, four, six, and four on consecutive balls, hoarding 23 runs off the over.

Sophie and Beth Mooney posted a whopping 173 runs for the first wicket. Mooney also played another handsome inning, making 65 runs off 54 balls. After Issy Wong had Beth Mooney caught behind. Darlington got the wicket of Sophie who had already done the damage with her 101 runs off 60 balls.

Clueless Thunder batting

As often happens, an innings like Devine can shatter the other team. And it happened once again as the Sydney Thunder looked completely out of sorts. Once the team lost Mandhana, who is struggling for form in the WBBL, Sydney neither could score quick nor could hold the wickets. Only Phoebe Litchfield and Deepti Sharma could make 20 runs or more. Phoebe made 24 runs but took 34 balls while Sharma had a run-a-ball 20, both innings way short of the required rate at hand. Alana King took four wickets to put Scorchers’ stamp on the game.
