Although the Australian government is yet to pass clear-cut guidelines for the athletes in regards to the next year’s Australian Open, it is highly likely that all athletes will have to be vaccinated for becoming eligible to play. Victoria’s sports minister Martin Pakula has urged athletes to get “serious” about getting vaccinated. A mandate like this can create huge problems for players such as Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas who have refused vaccination.

If I was an ATP or WTA player, I'd be getting vaccinated. That will give them the best opportunity to play in the Australian Open with the more minimal restrictions that might be in place for those people.

Martin Pakula, Victoria’s sports minister

I'm opposed to vaccination, and I wouldn't want to be forced by someone to take a vaccine in order to be able to travel.
