Emma Raducanu who shot to fame after becoming the first qualifier to win the US Open women’s singles has decided to not play in the Kremlin Cup. After the US Open win, Raducanu jumped several hundred spots in the ranking and is right now situated at the twenty-second rank.
Raducanu beat the likes of Sakkari, Rogers, Bencic, and Leylah Fernandez in the last four rounds of the US Open, winning every game in two sets. However, the teenage sensation lost to Aliaksandra Sasnovich during the Round of 64 in the Indian Wells Open a few days ago. Despite skipping the Moscow-based event, Emma is likely to participate in the WTA tournaments set to take place in Romania and Australia this season.
I look forward to returning to the Tour in the next couple of weeks. Unfortunately I've had to make a tournament schedule change and won't be able to play Moscow this year but I hope to compete there and in front of the Russian fans next year. In my mind, I'm so inexperienced that I'm just taking it all in.
