In what has been one of the most astonishing US Open tournaments, two teenagers are going to feature in the Semi-Finals. Maria Sakkari will look to stall Raducanu’s dream run while the supremely talented Sabalenka is going up against a highly confident Leylah Fernandez. These two match-ups feature younger players who didn’t enter as contenders but have now turned plenty of heads towards them courtesy of their awe-inspiring play.
Leylah Fernandez has had the toughest draw of all so far, she had to first win against the defending champion Naomi Osaka, then she had to cope up against sixteenth-seeded Angelique Kerber, and then to make matters trickier, fifth-seeded Elina Svitolina made her play for three and a half hours in an intense game. Now, the terrain has only got tougher for Leylah with the title favorite Aryna Sabalenka in her way, phew! Emma Raducanu has come off as even a bigger surprise because she ranks 150 and it means that she has been an underdog in every game she has played. In the previous two rounds, she has had to deal with Shelby Rogers who defeated the title favorite Ashleigh Barty and then in the latest round, she had to beat the Olympic singles champion Belinda Bencic.
