World No. 1 Jannik Sinner addressed his views on players after a positive doping test following his first-round victory at the Australian Open over Chilean Nicolás Jarry.

The match ended in three sets with scores of 7-6, 7-6, 6-1.

In 2020, Jarry was suspended for 11 months due to a violation of anti-doping rules. The Italian player also submitted a positive doping test; however, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) deemed him innocent.

Sinner said after the match:

I’m very honest with you. I don’t know the details of his case. What I can say also passing these kind of things, we got treated in the same way. There’s the protocol. If the protocol has some issues or problem, then it’s not my fault, you know? Of course, I'm very sorry for the players who are passing these kind of things.

In the second round of the Australian Open, Sinner will face Australian Tristan Schoolkate.
