The 23-time Grand Slam champion in women's singles and former world number one, American tennis player Serena Williams has revealed the difficulties she faced during her career as a black woman.
Harper's Bazaar quoted Williams as saying:
When you are a person of color, you're expected to-you have to-win so many times more than someone else. Black woman, we are basically starting at the bottom. You don't get paid as much. I was judged way more harshly than people that have done the same [thing].
In May this year, the 42-year-old athlete hinted that she is ready to resume her career in tennis. In August 2023, Serena welcomed her second child.
