Andrey Rublev, the top Russian tennis player, has expressed doubts about his ability to defend his title at the upcoming Madrid Masters tournament.

The event is set to take place in the Spanish capital from April 23 to May 4, with a total prize pool exceeding 8 million euros. Last year, Rublev triumphed over Canadian player Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final match.

I have never defended my title two years in a row, so I guess the chance is very low. Normally, most of the tournaments that I win, next year I lose in the first round.

Rublev, 27, holds the top spot in the Russian rankings and is ranked eighth in the world. Throughout his career, he has won 17 titles in singles.
