Novak Djokovic thrillingly beat Carlos Alcaraz 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2) to secure his first Olympic gold medal on Sunday at Court Philippe-Chatrier, becoming the oldest men’s Olympic singles champion at age 37.
The Serbian player is only the fifth person to achieve the 'Golden Slam', winning all four major singles titles and an Olympic gold medal, joining Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Andre Agassi, and Steffi Graf. He holds a record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles and 98 career titles.
The final in Paris lasted 2 hours and 50 minutes. Djokovic dropped his racket after winning the gold and put his hands over his mouth. He then embraced Alcaraz and dropped to his knees in exhaustion and emotion, staying down for nearly a minute. Afterward, he went into the stands to embrace his team and family.
