Former world number one Rafael Nadal has learned his first opponent at the ATP-250 tournament in Brisbane, Australia. The Spaniard will play with the representative of Austria Dominic Thiem.
The match against Thiem will be the first for Nadal since January 2023, the date of the meeting has not yet been determined. The tournament starts on December 31 and ends on January 7.
Nadal missed almost all of last year's tennis season. He suffered an iliopsoas muscle injury at the Australian Open and was unable to continue on the tour. The 22-time Grand Slam winner resumed training only in October.
Earlier, Nadal said that he was thinking about ending his career and admitted that he dreams of becoming the president of football club Real Madrid.
