Spanish tennis legend and former world number one Rafael Nadal will conclude the 2024 season without a single victory in Grand Slam matches.
On Wednesday, August 7, it was announced that the 38-year-old will not participate in the US Open, set to take place from August 26 to September 8. This tournament is the last Grand Slam event of the current season.
As a result, Nadal will finish the year without any Grand Slam wins for the first time since 2002. It's worth noting that this year, he played only one match at a Grand Slam event—the French Open. In the first round of that tournament, he lost to Germany's Alexander Zverev, who subsequently reached the final.
In total, Nadal reached the final of an ATP-250 tournament in Båstad, Sweden, in 2024. However, he was defeated by Portugal's Nuno Borges with a score of 3-6, 2-6.
Earlier, Nadal congratulated Serbian player Novak Djokovic on his victory in the men’s singles final at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
