Former world number one Simona Halep has been disqualified for four years for violating anti-doping rules, according to the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA).
Recall that earlier the Romanian athlete was suspended from participation in the US Open-2023 due to failed testing.
It is reported that the period of disqualification is based on charges of two episodes. Apart from a positive doping test in 2022, which revealed the banned substance roxadustat, Halep was found to have abnormalities in her biological passport.
Halep is a two-time winner of Grand Slam tournaments. The 31-year-old athlete has been suspended since October 2022.
