Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has described this season as one of his least successful, despite winning a gold medal at the Olympics in Paris. This assessment came after his defeat in the final of the Masters tournament in Shanghai.

Djokovic lost to world number one Jannik Sinner in straight sets, 6-7 (4-7), 3-6. Nonetheless, this year he secured the Olympic gold and reached the Wimbledon final. If he had won in Shanghai, he would have become the third player in history to achieve 100 ATP titles, joining the ranks of Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer.

It was going to come at some point where, you know, I wouldn’t win slams and maintain that highest level for so many years in a row. That’s okay, I’m happy with my gold medal from Olympics, that was the main goal for this year.

He also reflected on the importance of accepting the results of this season and expressed his intention to continue his career next year.

At 37 years old, Djokovic holds the record for 24 Grand Slam titles and is currently ranked fourth in the ATP standings.
